James Comer Launches Investigation into ESG Investing Practices for Potential Violations of Federal Law

The top Republican on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, James Comer (R-Ky), has initiated a new investigation into environmental, social and governance investing (ESG) investing. Comer is seeking to determine if certain asset managers applying ESG criteria to investment decisions violate federal law. He has written to Mark Van Der Weide, general counsel for the Federal Reserve System Board of Governors, requesting information regarding these inquiries. The investigation will focus on the Bank Holding Company (BHC) Act, Home Owners’ Loan Act (HOLA) and Change in Bank Control (CIBC) Act.
