Interior Secretary Deb Haaland Withdraws 4,000 Acres in New Mexico from Mining and Drilling for 50 Years.

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland has withdrawn more than 4,000 acres of federal land in New Mexico from new mining and oil and gas drilling. This follows a proposal last year that the agency would remove a large swath of land within the Placitas area in Sandoval County for a period of 50 years as part of a mineral withdrawal that would still recognize valid and existing rights. The area contains significant cultural ties to Pueblos and is popular for outdoor recreation and hunting. The areas are near the Albuquerque metro area and are also home to hiking, camping, sightseeing and hunting, Interior stated.
