Innovationa has developed a tagless fish detection technology based on Artificial Intelligence to help in the 21st century of fish counting at dams and hydropower plants. The technology uses optical cameras, imaging sonar and artificial intelligence to detect, count and classify fish in real-time using a combination of these techniques. The system has been proven to be more than 95% accurate in correctly identifying wild fish and could help operators reduce the impact on wildlife and the number of days they shut down or modify operations to mitigate potential impacts. The tagless system was initially unveiled in May 2022 after successful preliminary testing using video of fish swimming around the Wells Dam in Washington’s Columbia River and high-resolution DIDSON imaging sonor captured from the Ocqueoc River in Michigan.
