Hydrogen Fuel Cells Revolutionize Aviation: ZeroAvia Launches First Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft, Promising Sustainable Air Travel.

Hydrogen fuel cells have emerged as a promising solution to the environmental footprint of the aviation industry, promising a paradigm shift towards sustainable air travel. In 2023, ZeroAvia, a pioneer in hydrogen-electric aircraft, successfully launched the world’s first hydrogen-powered aircraft, a 19-seater plane with both a kerosene-powered engine and a hydrogen fuel cell engine, and Universal Hydrogen, a German innovator, demonstrating the potential of fully hydrogen-dependent flights lasting over three hours. The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) highlights liquid hydrogen as a game-changer, envisioning a 90 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for propeller-driven aircraft using liquid hydrogen fuel cells. Boeing and Airbus are also working on developing hydrogen engine technology for large commercial aircraft.
