Hydro One Launches Biodiversity Initiative, Invites Proposals for Habitat Creation in Southwest Ontario Transmission Project.

Hydro One Inc. has launched its Biodiversity Initiative in southwest Ontario, part of the Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line Project, to fund habitat creation and invest in the natural environment. The initiative is part of Hydro One’s commitment to support the energy needs of southwest Ontario while operating in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. The company is inviting Indigenous communities, community members, and environmental organizations to submit proposals that create or enhance local habitat. The new Chatham-to-lakeshore transmission line will provide enough electricity to power a community the size of Windsor once completed. As part of Hydro One’s pathway towards Reconciliation, the company has offered five First Nations a 50 per cent equity stake in the transmission line component of the project.
