House Subcommittee to Debate Groundbreaking Geothermal Energy Bill and Offshore Data Collection Legislation for Renewable Expansion.

A House Natural Resources subcommittee is set to debate three energy bills, including legislation that supporters believe could revolutionize geothermal energy. The subcommittee will also discuss draft legislation from Texas Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt to update the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s offshore data collection system. The bills aim to expand renewable energy, with H.R. 8665 focusing on “supercritical” geothermal development. The process involves drilling 2.5 miles underground and injecting water into rock formations heated by the Earth’s core to create steam.
