House Republicans have criticized the Biden administration for not holding fewer offshore oil sales and supporting seismic testing that could stimulate development. Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn), chair of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, suggested that U.S. offshore oil could help fill the gap between global demand and falling discoveries. Staubers also suggested that providing more opportunities to lease offshore energy resources was a crucial step towards a more secure, sustainable and prosperous offshore energy future for future generations.
