House Republicans to Vote on Bill Blocking D.C.’s Electric Vehicle Mandate Amid Health and Economic Concerns.

The House Republicans are set to vote on legislation to block the District of Columbia’s “electric vehicle mandate”. The legislation would prevent Washington from adopting California’s stricter tailpipe pollution standards, part of Democrats’ plan to accelerate the transition to EVs. The bill, introduced by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida), criticizes Democrats’ out-of-touch politics and suggests that it will cost American families more than the median household income and harm minorities the most. Critics argue that the California rule improves public health in cities like Washington where asthma rates are high. Since Washington is under federal jurisdiction, Congress has the power to control the District’s affairs.
