House Republicans are continuing their investigation into a recently nixed proposal by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that would have allowed investors to trade companies with a focus on preserving nature. The proposed rule, withdrawn in January, would have authorized so-called natural asset companies to trade on the New York Stock Exchange. Congress has also filed legislation to prevent the SEC from advancing a similar proposed rule in the future. The legislation would allow for investors to purchase shares of these natural assets based on environmental concerns such as soil quality, climate stability, and wildlife habitat.
