House Hearing Sparks Debate Over Biden’s Natural Resource Valuation Proposals Amid Republican Criticism and Democratic Defense.

A House oversight hearing was held against the Biden administration’s proposals to place economic value on natural resources, with Democrats accusing Republicans of showing a lack of respect towards expert witnesses. The hearing also included debate on a proposed rule by the Securities and Exchange Commission that would have allowed natural asset companies to trade on the New York Stock Exchange. Republicans continued to criticize the administration’s proposed National Strategy for Natural Capital Accounting, which lays out a process for designating natural resources as an asset with a specific monetary value that should be considered when making policy decisions about these resources. They accused the administration of attempting to “lock up” federal lands from energy development, mining, and livestock grazing.
