The House Natural Resources Committee is set to vote on public land and mining bills, including legislation against a plan by the Biden administration to fast-track critical mineral projects. H.R. 6862 would block a proposed rule from the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council, which is designed to expedite environmental reviews for large projects, to only accelerate permitting of mining projects deemed critical by the federal government. The legislation aims to ensure all hardrock mineral projects are eligible for expedited consideration under the so-called FAST-41 streamlined regulatory review process.
