The House of Representatives has approved H.R. 2925, the “Mining Regulatory Clarity Act,” a bill aimed at addressing concerns from the mining industry about storing waste on land that doesn’t have economically recoverable minerals. The bill was defeated by a handful of Republicans last week, but supporters argue it is crucial to reversing a 2019 court ruling concerning the Rosemont copper venture in Arizona. Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn), chair of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, called it a “backward decision.”
