Honolulu Director Creates “Social Stories” to Help Children Cope with Climate Disasters, Now Available Online.

Elizabeth Hartline, the director of Honolulu Community College’s Alani Children’s Center, has written “social stories” to help children process climate disasters. Her stories, which she has been using for years, explain the changes a toddler might undergo in early life, are now available on the Hawaii Department of Health’s website for easy access by wildfire victims. Hartline’s story, “There Was A Fire,” is part of a larger effort by the United Way, government agencies, and other organizations to distribute tens of thousands of books to children after disasters.
