Hitachi Energy to invest over $100M in Montreal facilities to boost transformer production amid energy transition.

Swiss-based Hitachi Energy plans to invest over USD 100m (EUR 93.2m) in its power transformer factory in Varennes and other facilities in Montreal to respond to growing demand amid North America’s energy transition push. The investment aligns with Hitachi’s recent USD-1.5-billion investment plan to expand its global transformer production capacity by 2027. The initiative includes the construction of a testing facility for large power transformers and a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) engineering and design centre. Funding for these projects will be partially provided by the Government of Quebec through Investissement Quebec.
