UK company Habitat Energy has been chosen to optimize a 730 MW battery storage portfolio in four standalone projects in the ERCOT market. The projects, set to begin operations from August to December 2024, are part of UBS Asset Management’s energy storage investment strategy. The move comes as energy storage is increasing to meet increasing renewable energy mix and meet U.S. federal and state net zero goals. Wood Mackenzie grid-storage analyst Vanessa Witte predicts that 65 GW of energy storage projects will be needed through 2026. Habitat has signed a deal with UBS to expand its portfolio of assets to more than 2 GW.
