Solar developer Golden State Clean Energy (GSCE) and community choice energy provider MCE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will enable the deployment of up to 400 MW of solar and 400 MW energy storage capacity in California’s Fresno County. The MoU is part of a programme initiated by GSCE to add up to 20 GW of solar energy and storage capacity, or roughly one-sixth of California’s electricity requirements in 2035. The scheme will include repurposing up to 130,000 acres of drainage-impaired or water-challenged lands within the Westlands Water District of Fresno County, California. MCE will be able to build the facilities directly or buy the energy through a power purchase agreement, with its portion of the project set to provide electricity for over 16,000 homes annually.
