Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has assured global allies that the United States will continue to ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) for years, despite accusations that the Biden administration is attempting to “ban” LNG exports. The Department of Energy announced a pause in January on new authorizations for LNG export authorizations to nonfree-trade-agreement countries, following criticism that the administration’s actions are not going to impact any relationship with allies or their ability to access energy. Critics argue that U.S. LNG produces domestic jobs and reduces global greenhouse gas emissions. Republican attorneys general and some Democratic party loyalists are threatening legal action against the administration, while some Democrats are bucking the administration.
