GE Vernova and Iberdrola Launch 766-MW Topolobampo III Power Plant, Boosting Mexico’s Gas-Fired Generation Capacity.

GE Vernova and Iberdrola Mexico have begun commercial operation of the 766-MW Topolobampo III power plant in Sinaloa state. The facility is powered by GE’s H-class combined cycle equipment and features two 7HA.01 gas turbines, the first such turbines deployed in a Mexican power station. Mexico is building more gas-fired generation units to use its domestic natural gas resources. The move comes as Mexico’s natural gas production rose 18% year-over-year from 2021 to 2022. The country’s goal is to more than double its renewable energy generation capacity by 2030. GE Vernova has invested nearly $2 billion in the development of its HA technology in Mexico.
