FuelCell Energy, Inc. has patented a patent for its Steam Methane Reformer-Integrated Fuel Cell System, a system that combines existing technologies to enhance hydrogen production and utilization efficiency and sustainability. The system includes several key components, including a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) system, a steam methane reformer, a water-gas shift reactor, and an electrolyte matrix. The PSA system purifies the second product stream with a higher concentration of hydrogen and removes waste from the system, which is repurposed within the system to maximise energy output and reduce waste. FuelCell Energy’s patent underscores a commitment to sustainability and efficiency in hydrogen production. The patent could pave the way for future advancements in clean energy solutions as the energy landscape continues to evolve.
