The Federal Trade Commission claimed that Sheffield coordinated with OPEC officials to keep oil production low. Despite approving the sale of Pioneer to Exxon Mobil, Sheffield was barred from serving on its board. This comes as Democratic lawmakers investigate whether the oil and gas industry has rigged costs at the pump, a claim that has become a key election issue.
