Florida Senate Approves $100 Million Bill for Land Conservation and Sea-Level Rise Mitigation Efforts.

The Florida Senate has voted 37-0 to send a bill to the House that would allocate up to $100 million annually from the Seminole Tribe gambling compact for land acquisition, land management, and another $100 billion to address sea-level rise and flooding. The bill is supported by Senate President Kathleen Passidomo (R), who has prioritized land conservation. It includes the creation of the “Compact to Preserve,” with at least $79 million or more yearly going towards the Florida Water Quality Grants Program. The legislation targets lands within the Florida Wildlife Corridor, which covers nearly 18 million acres and remains to be protected.
