FERC to Vote on Controversial Calcasieu Pass 2 LNG Export Terminal Amid Environmental Concerns and Delays

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is set to vote on a permit for the proposed Calcasieu Pass 2 project, which would be one of the largest natural gas export terminals along the US coast if completed. The project is designed to ship 20 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas overseas annually. Environmentalist Bill McKibben, who fought against the Keystone XL oil pipeline, has called the project an “environmental justice train wreck”. The project’s developer, Venture Global, has criticized FERC for delaying the facility’s approval. The final environmental review for the CP2 facility was issued in July.
