The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is seeking more information about an amended interconnection service agreement that would facilitate the sale of power to an Amazon data center from a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. The agreement, approved by PJM Interconnection and Talen Energy, could be approved by FERC in late October or early November. The amended ISA is seen as a potential precedent for a wave of co-located data centers at nuclear power plants owned by companies such as Constellation Energy, PSEG Power and Vistra. The company plans to hold a technical conference in the fall to discuss generic issues related to co-locating large loads at generating facilities. American Electric Power and Exelon have challenged the ISA, arguing it could cause an annual shift of up to $140 million in transmission costs onto PJM ratepayers.
