A federal judge has denied a request from shareholder group Arjuna Capital to dismiss Exxon Mobil’s lawsuit against shareholders, stating he does not have jurisdiction over another shareholder group involved in the case. The lawsuit has sparked an uprising against Exxon, which took the unusual step of suing to block the two shareholder groups from proposing a nonbinding resolution urging the oil company to reduce planet-warming emissions. The groups have since agreed not to submit the resolution again. Judge Mark Pittman, a Trump appointee, stated that it must be clear that investors would not repeat their actions.
