The Solar for All program, announced on Earth Day, has awarded 60 recipients of $7 billion in funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) aimed at providing solar energy to low-income households. The recipients were chosen based on their proposals to develop programs to serve communities with barriers to distributed solar deployment. 100% of the funding will support low- income and disadvantaged communities in all 50 states the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and territories. The funding will also benefit tribal communities, which will receive over $500 million. The projects funded by the program are expected to provide over 4 GW of solar to 900,000 households by the end of 2023. The DOE estimates that as a result, hundreds of thousands of jobs will be created across the country over the next five years.
