EPA to Review Nitrogen Oxides Air Quality Standards by November 2028 Following Lawsuit Settlement.

EPA is set to complete a review of its primary ambient air quality standards for nitrogen oxides, a class of pollutants closely linked to emissions from coal-burning industries and the internal combustion engine. The agency would have to make a final decision by November 2028 on whether changes to existing limits are needed to be made. The settlement of a lawsuit brought by the Center for Biological Diversity and two other groups alleges that EPA was already behind a Clean Air Act timetable for completing the review. The final decision on changes to the existing limits still requires approval from a U.S. District Judge Rita Lin following a 30-day public comment period.
