EPA Denies Petition for Exemption from Air Toxics Regulations, Upholding Standards for Combustion Turbines Emissions.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has denied a petition by business trade groups seeking a significant exemption from federal air toxics regulations. The petition, which was supported by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers and five other groups, was denied by the EPA as grounds for denying it. The coalition failed to adequately address the long-term cancer risk posed by stationary combustion turbines’ exhaust. As a result, power plants, compressor stations, and other industries that rely on turbines will need to meet national emission standards for formaldehyde and other hazardous pollutants.
