US solar and battery storage developer, Encore Renewable Energy, has begun construction on a 3.6-MW solar farm in Constable, New York. This is the company’s first such project in New York State and is part of a nearly 90-MW pipeline currently being developed by Encore. The project will also be an agri-voltaic scheme, partnering with the J&R Pierce Family Farm to provide sheep to munch vegetation beneath the solar panels, reducing the need for fossil fuel powered mowers and improving soil quality and pollinator health. Encore’s project benefits from the NY-Sun Initiative and VDER (Value of Distributed Energy Resources) programme, which will compensate Encore for the output from Constable Solar and deliver this electricity to its customers.
