The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has predicted that over 50 GW of new utility-scale solar projects will be deployed in 2024, with a potential total of 65 GW in 2025. This is expected to increase to about 53 GWdc in 2025, according to the agency’s Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO). This comes as overall electricity generation is predicted to grow by 3% in 2024 and remain constant in 2025 with coal’s contribution to electricity generation expected to fall by 9% and another 10% in 2025 due to increasing renewable generation. If the deployment reaches about 65GW, solar power could account for nearly 11% of all electricity generation in 2026.
