Portuguese renewables company EDP Renovaveis SA (EDPR) has secured a 24-year capacity tolling agreement in the US state of Arizona for a 200-MW/800 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), set to become commercially operational in 2025. The agreement was made through EDP Renewables North America LLC, with Arizona utility Salt River Project (SRP) receiving off-take the electricity stored in the BESS. The BESS is set to be EDPR’s largest battery so far in North America. The project reinforces EDPR’s belief in the importance of storage in boosting the potential for renewable energy and encouraging energy transition acceleration and the decarbonisation of the economy.
