Eaton and Endurant Energy are deploying 150MWh of BESS units in the Bronx and Staten Island, population-dense parts of New York City. The move is part of the state’s strategy to increase energy storage deployments as part of decarbonising its energy system and reduce dependence on gas peaker plants. As part of this, Eaton will provide BESS unit units and power system studies, including switchgear, switchboards and transformers. The state is aiming to have 6GW of energy storage online by 2030. However, recent fires at lithium-ion BESS projects have negatively impacted trust in the technology.
