DOE Seeks Domestic Low-Enriched Uranium to Reduce Reliance on Russian Imports and Strengthen U.S. Nuclear Supply.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has initiated a request for proposals (RFP) to buy low-enriched uranium (LEU) from domestic suppliers in an effort to counter Russian influence. The RFP will seek LEU through procurement contracts for indefinite quantity and indefinite delivery (IDIQ), which could result in awards of contracts lasting up to 10 years. The DOE plans to sell LEU to utilities operating U.S. reactors to reduce reliance on Russian imports. The solicitation is part of a broader effort by the U.K. executive branch to ensure a stable supply of LEU amid potential disruptions in the nuclear fuel market.
