DOE Report Highlights Strategies to Strengthen U.S. Hydropower Supply Chain for Carbon-Free Grid by 2035.

The Department of Energy (Dee) has released a report outlining strategies to strengthen the nation’s hydropower supply chain. Hydropower, which currently provides over one-quarter of U.S. renewable electricity, is a crucial component of the Biden administration’s goal to achieve a 100 percent carbon-free grid by 2035. The report notes that America’s nearly 1,500 hydrophower plants have an average life of seven decades and maintenance is often infrequent and capital-intensive. This has led to inconsistent demand for hydroppower components and hindered development of the domestic supply chain, according to the report.
