DOE Announces $861 Million Loan Guarantee and $325 Million Grant for Solar Projects in Puerto Rico

The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a $861 million loan guarantee and the opening of a $325 million grant program for solar projects in Puerto Rico. The loan guarantee would go to Clean Flexible Energy, which would provide 200 megawatts of solar and up to 285 MW of batteries, enough to power 43,000 homes. The separate grant program aims to fund the installation of solar power and batteries at community health care facilities and housing complexes. The project, Project Marahu, aims to harden the Puerto Rican grid, reduce electricity prices, and help meet the territory’s ambitious clean energy and climate goals.
