DOE Announces $85 Million in Grants to Boost U.S. Heat Pump Production Amid Climate Concerns

The Department of Energy (DOE) has announced $85 million in grants to boost heat pump production in the US, amid concerns that sales of climate-friendly heating and cooling systems are lagging. Four producers, A.O. Smith Corp., Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Modine Manufacturing and Bitzer Scroll, plan to use the funds to produce heat pumps or related products. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said the grants will help strengthen the U.S. electricity grid and help reduce reliance on extreme weather events.
