The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced plans to invest $2.2bn in the country’s power grid for eight projects across 18 states to counter threats of extreme weather events. The investment is expected to lower costs for communities and provide additional grid capacity to address load growth due to increased manufacturing and data centers. The projects, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) programme, are expected to generate a minimum of 5,000 good-paying jobs and upgrade over 1609km of transmission. This funding marks the single largest federal government direct investment into critical grid infrastructure.
