The US Department of Energy (DoE) has announced plans to guarantee a $1.66 billion loan to hydrogen fuel production company Plug Power, a company based in Latham, New York. The funds will be used to build up to six new clean hydrogen fuel facilities in the US. The loan is part of the Biden administration’s clean H2 production support strategy as part of its energy decarbonization program. The investment is focused on green H2, which is made using electrolysis powered by renewable energy. Plug Power is already a leader in the development of hydrogen fuel cell systems, which can be used as a clean energy alternative to fossil fuels and conventional batteries in electric vehicles.
