The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been criticised by some environmentalists for not publishing the strongest version of its proposed rule, requiring public companies to disclose their climate impacts. 21 House and Senate Democrats are urging the SEC Chair, Gary Gensler, to adhere to certain components of his original proposal, the “ESG Disclosures Rule”, aimed at ensuring corporate accountability in corporate America’s environmental practices. The final rule would require key requirements for proving investment funds and portfolios are truly reflective of ESG values.
