CubicPV has cancelled its 10GW US wafer factory due to a “dramatic collapse in wafer prices and a surge in construction costs”. The company blames these factors for its failure to realise a domestic manufacturing base. Jobs at the facility have been cut. The company plans to focus on developing and commercialising perovskite solar products, which have not yet been commercialised due to the slow degradation of the material. The decision comes as concerns over solar module prices have led to the abandonment of several solar manufacturing plans in Europe, where the European manufacturing sector has been hit by falling prices on solar imports.
