Construction Begins on Puerto Rico’s Largest Solar and Storage Project to Boost Renewable Energy and Agriculture.

Construction has begun on Puerto Rico’s largest solar and storage system, Ciro One, in Salinas. The 90-MW solar and 51.5-MW battery project will include a 25-year warranty, a demonstration site for agrivoltaics to blend energy production & farming needs. It is expected to be operational by the end of 2024 and will strengthen Puerto Rico’s energy network. The project will provide Puerto Rico with a 90 megawatt solar energy resource and a storage system to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The system will also feature a lithium-titanate oxide battery technology, providing reliable energy storage for the first time. The combination of renewable energy and agricultural use will provide an opportunity for agricultural production and economic growth.
