ConocoPhillips and Alaska AG sue Biden administration over new oil and gas restrictions in Arctic reserve.

New lawsuits are being filed by ConocoPhillips Alaska and Republican state Attorney General Treg Taylor against the Biden administration’s latest restrictions on oil and gas development in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve. The lawsuits argue that the Interior Department rule establishing stronger environmental protections for over half of the reserve is a violation of a previous rule. The Bureau of Land Management advanced the protections in response to public backlash over approving new fossil fuel development in the remote Arctic region. Alaskan politicians have warned that limiting drilling in the state could significantly undermine revenue needed to fund public services.
