This has raised questions about the speed of the introduction of automated driving systems to U.S. roadways. The House Energy and Commerce Committee has been the most active on the issue, having held seven hearings since 2016. However, Republicans and Democrats are far apart on potential legislation. This leaves state and local governments in a difficult position.
