A Colorado judge has brought another climate lawsuit against fossil fuel companies, Exxon Mobil and Suncor Energy, a step closer to trial. The lawsuit was filed by the city and county of Boulder against oil companies, but does not attempt to regulate emissions or infringe on the energy industry’s First Amendment rights, according to Judge Robert Gunning. Gunning rejected claims that the case is an attempt to control the global activity of these companies. He stated that Boulder is not calling for court to regulate or limit greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels.
