Chevillion U.S.A. Inc. has filed a patent to enhance the efficiency and practicality of hydrogen storage and compression systems. The patent suggests a new approach to improve the efficiency of hydrogen absorption and desorption using metal hydride composite materials. This method aims to enhance hydrogen storage systems for various applications, including fuel cells and hydrogen-powered vehicles. The process of absorbing hydrogen (endothermic) and releasing it (exothermic), requires significant thermal changes without efficient heat transfer mechanisms. Chevron’s patent suggests several innovative techniques for enhancing heat transfer between the material and a heat exchanger, including the use of thermally conductive substances like adhesive, grease, or solder between the metal hydide composite material and the heat exchangers, which can facilitate better heat conduction and thereby accelerate the rates of hydrogen absorb and deserption.
