CentPoint Energy, a Texas utility, has proposed a $5 billion investment into Houston-area grid resilience and forego profits from its lease of large mobile generators in a letter to state lawmakers. The utility has faced criticism for its response to Hurricane Beryl, which left almost 2.3 million customers without power in Houston and left an $800 million fleet of mobile generators largely unused during the recovery. Looking ahead, CenterPoint plans to propose a larger investment of approximately $5bn from 2026 to 2028, the largest investment in Houston infrastructure in its history.
