Canada’s Finance Minister Freeland Threatens Tariffs on Chinese EV Imports Amid Concerns Over Unfair Trade Practices.

Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Chrystia Freeland, has threatened to impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle imports in an attempt to counter “unfair” Chinese trade. The government is considering a new surtax on Chinese EV imports and rule changes to federal EV rebates. Freeland also expressed openness to further restrictions, including duties on Chinese-made batteries. The move comes as part of a 30-day consultation period on July 2 for new policies.
