Canada and Newfoundland Sign MoU to Empower Province in Offshore Wind Project Regulation and Development.

The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) allowing the east coast Canadian province to take the regulatory lead on offshore wind projects within its inland bays. The MoU sets out a framework for Newfoundland to administer land tenure, life-cycle regulation and revenues for offshore renewable energy projects within provincial bays, allowing the province to set the pace of development. The agreement is seen as an important step towards creating a locally driven offshore wind industry in Newfoundland.
