California lawmakers have reached a deal on a $10 billion climate bond proposal, which is set to be voted on before the Wednesday deadline for borrowing measures to be placed on the ballot. The proposal, contained within state Sen. Ben Allen’s S.B. 867, has been supported by environmental, local government, and social justice organizations. It is expected to be included in the November ballot along with a $11 billion school infrastructure measure. The state’s estimated capacity to take on bonds is estimated to be around $20 billion.
