California has signed a $127 million agreement with Stadler Rail to acquire six additional zero-emission, hydrogen-powered passenger trainsets. The deal is part of a larger effort by Caltrans to combat climate change and enhance its zero emission passenger rail capabilities. The first trainsets are expected to begin revenue service by 2027. The investment, funded through Governor Gavin Newsom’s $10 billion zero-EMission vehicle package, underscores California’s commitment to clean transportation. The state also allocated $407 million to CalSTA for the purchase of clean bus and rail equipment.
