California Republican lawmakers are criticizing Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom for proposed regulations on oil refineries that critics believe will increase prices at the pump. Newsom had proposed a proposal to require refiners to maintain a minimum reserve to avoid supply shortages, which he believes would prevent price gouging and spikes. California Rep. Vince Fong and 16 of his House GOP colleagues argue that this plan would raise prices across several Western states. They argue that it will negatively impact the ability of Californians to drive, shop, and go to school, buy groceries, and work.
